I. Where to apply
If you are a foreign national and want to become a Vietnamese citizen, you can apply at the Embassy of Viet Nam to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Important rule: You must submit your application yourself, exception for children (a parent or legal guardian may submit the application) or people who have a legal representative.
You must submit 3 application sets that contain the same documents.
II. Final outcome
Decision on the acquisition of Vietnamese nationality issued by the President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam is the final and official outcome (other authorities are responsible only for examination and recommendation).
III. Documents you must prepare
1. Application form (the correct form based on your situation, adult or child)
– For adults (18 years old and above): Use the Application for Vietnamese Nationality (Form TP/QT-2025-ĐXNQT.1)
– For children or legally represented persons: The application must be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian (Form TP/QT-2024-ĐXNQT.2)
2. Curriculum Vitae – CV
3. Personal identification documents, provide copies of one or more of the following:
– Birth certificate;
– Passport;
– Other official documents that legally replace a birth certificate.
4. Criminal record certificate
Note: The document must be issued by a foreign authority and no older than 90 days on the day you submit your application
5. Applying for children together with parents
– If a child applies for Vietnamese nationality with their parent, then both parents must agree and sign
– If only one parent applies, that parent is legally responsible for the accuracy of the other parent’s signature
6. Keeping your foreign nationality (dual nationality)
a. If you want to keep your current nationality while becoming Vietnamese: You must show that foreign law allows this
b. If your country does not issue such confirmation:
– You must submit a written declaration;
– You must also sign a written commitment stating that: You will not use your foreign nationality to harm: Viet Nam’s national security; Public order and The rights and interests of organizations or individuals.
7. Cases where some conditions may be waived:
Some applicants may not need to meet all conditions if they can prove one of the following:
– They have Vietnamese relatives (grandparents, parents, or children);
– They have received Vietnamese medals, honors, or titles;
– They have made special contributions beneficial to Viet Nam (This must be officially recognized by Vietnamese authorities);
Note: Very important rules for all documents:
– Documents issued outside Viet Nam: Must be consular legalized, unless legalization is not required by Vietnamese law or an international agreement;
– Documents in a foreign language must be translated into Vietnamese and the translator’s signature must be officially certified;
– Accepted copy formats:
+ Photocopies from original documents

+ Valid electronic documents
+ Documents shown in the VNeID electronic identification app.
